If you read yesterday’s post, you’ll know I’m always looking for ways to keep my sugar addiction in check. Here’s one way: Last month I made some homemade Lara Bars. In the afternoon I always realize I am hungry as I am running out the door to go somewhere. It was so easy and very tasty. Literally, the perfect snack to grab and go. I mixed equal parts organic dates and soaked and dehydrated sunflower seeds in my Blendtec blender and then rolled them into balls. I kept them in my fridge for about a week in a glass Pyrex container.
One of my friends saw on my Instagram feed that I had made them and she emailed me to tell me I might like Katie, of Kitchen Stewardship, and her ebook called Healthy Snacks To Go. I took one look at this Real Food ebook and blog and thought, yessiree ma’am! I like it very much!
Upon closer inspection of the ebook, I was super impressed with how detailed and thorough all of her recipes an explanations are. She leaves no stone unturned and explains everything in great detail for all the novice home cooks and Real Food newbies out there.
Her book is also super organized. Not all of her recipes are grain-free and gluten-free, but a large majority are. She has an ingredient key to quickly let you know which recipes are gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, nut-free, etc. The key also lets you know whether a snack is frugal or pricey (yet still cheaper than a processed, packaged version) and whether or not the snack is diaper bag/backpack friendly or needs a refrigeration.
Her Cardamom Spiced Grain Free Granola recipe had me at hello. The 15 versions of my homemade Lara Bar recipe all look amazing. And she even does double and quad measurements for you so you don’t have to do any math. She’s also got popcorn, cracker, muffin, fruit rolls and more. Seriously, her ebook is jam packed with snack recipes and I want to try all of them!
