Oh, tapping, how I love you. And oh, I don’t know what would I do without you.
As I mentioned before in Tapping To Reduce Toddler Meltdowns, Tapping or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a tool I have used for over a decade. It is great all around self healing tool and I relied heavily on it while pregnant with Penelope to reduce anxiety about loosing her.
One of my favorite times to use tapping is when I am feeling overwhelmed. Watch the video below to see how to use tapping and what I say while tapping. Repeat everything I say and do in the video on yourself, and after doing it with me a few times, you will start to be able to do it on your own, using whatever words flow and work best for you and your specific situation. You will feel better almost instantly!
The script is below in written format. Remember, once you get the hang of it, use your own words.
During the first round of tapping, validate your current feelings. Don’t try to analyze what you’re feeling, just name it and own it and really feel it. Then take a deep breath and start the next round of tapping. This is when you hit the reset button and add in the positive affirmations. Make sure to take note of how stressed you are on a scale of 0 to 10, so you can really see how much better you feel when you are done!
I am so stressed out right now.
I am so overwhelmed right now.
I have so much to do it’s insane.
I am so tired.
I don’t have enough time to get it all done.
I don’t know how I am going to get it all done.
I am so overwhelmed!
I am so irriated.
I hate feeling like this.
I am so stressed.
My kid is driving me crazy.
My spouse is really annoying me.
I am SO overwhelmed!
So much to do and so little time to do it.
Ugh, I think I bit off more than I can chew.
I hate feeling so rushed and stressed.
But I am gonna let it all go.
I am going to release this stress and worry.
I am open to healing this feeling of overwhelm.
I am open to slowing down and not getting it all done.
I am going to calm down.
I am going to relax.
I am going to take care of myself.
I am open to not getting it all done.
I am going to listen to my body.
I am open to learning the lesson of this experiene and these emotions.
I feel my stress releasing now.
I feel my body calming down.
I am not my stress.
I know that even though I feel overwhelmed I am still a good mom.
I am imperfect but I still love myself.
I feel calm!
I feel better!
What’s your stress level now? See! It works!
