My New Garden Containers From and a HUGE Giveaway!

When we first moved to South Florida this summer, one of the first things I did was research container gardening options.

Leaving behind the home we had owned for a long time meant losing my 10×30 garden that I had built with my own two hands. It was gut wrenching. If not for my husband wanting to live by the beach and surf everyday, I would have never left Tallahassee or our beautiful house and I would have been buried in that backyard, probably in my vegetable garden. But oh, the things you do for love.

In my research, I came across an amazing site called Being an online business myself, I am very sensitive to the energy a website gives off and to the visual aesthetics. I am very picky and do not want to be on a website that is ugly or hard to navigate. Eartheasy’s website is beautiful, extremely well done, and user friendly. I liked their site right away. Their selection of gardening and lawn care products is comprehensive and carefully chosen. They choose only the best green gardening and lawn care products that they can find, and place an emphasis on sustainability: how their products are manufactured, where the materials are sourced, and how long they will last.

For my business, I am not only interested in selling products that help solve problems, but I love to educate and inspire through my writing. is exactly the same; they have massive amounts of well written articles about their family living off the grid for 30 years!

When I looked more into the background of the family who started the business, I was even more impressed that it was a family-owned small business with values that I can support. Greg Seaman started the business back in 2000 and his whole family is involved: his wife Lindsey and their sons Ben and Aran all contribute to the business in various ways.

Greg decided to start Eartheasy because of their unique living arrangements of living on a small rural island in the Pacific Northwest. Life on the island was a little Swiss Family Robinson. With no electricity, services or even a road to their home, they learned to embrace the rural lifestyle: looking to themselves for solutions and being happy with what they had. They grew their own produce in a beautiful organic garden and orchard, they fished, gathered clams and oysters, raised chickens, and traded with neighbors for extras. Their home was built by hand using old-fashioned hand tools and recycled materials from stately old homes being demolished in Victoria to make way for condominiums. They were truly living off the grid.

Now that we live in South Florida (Jupiter, Fl), we are renting and have a very, very small back yard and patio. It is hot, rainy and buggy in my new sub-tropical home. When I contacted Eartheasy about my unique yard/patio needs, we decided on two cedar garden planters for my patio and a 4×8 GrowCamp for a corner in my yard. The total square foot of all three plots still pales in comparison to what I had in Tallahassee, but it is a good amount of space and I am very curious to see how much I can produce.

In general, raised garden beds allow you to garden easier, with more control over soil and less strain on your back. I picked the cedar planters because I liked that they had rollers on the bottom so I could move them out of the way if a hurricane or bad storm comes through. Rolling planters  also allows for me to shift their location as I get to know my patio and yard and can follow the sun. It is so hot here that some plants that normally thrive in direct sunlight actually need a bit more shade and protection here.

I loved the GrowCamp raised garden bed  because it had the screen netting to keep bugs, pests and other critters out. Here in South Florida, our house backs up to a nature preserve and a river, and I have to deal with things like snails, lizards and other bugs that I did not have to deal with before. I literally have turtles, big blue crabs, snakes, rabbits and squirrels coming in my yard all the time. And the netting of the GrowCamp protects the plants from the classic South Florida heavy afternoon thunderstorms. But if you live up north, you can use the plastic cover and it turns into a greenhouse!

So far I am in love with both products and all my plants are doing extremely well. Despite the fact that I am basically having to start over and learn how to garden in a different area, Eartheasy’s products have made this transition easier. I totally want to buy another GrowCamp so I have more growing space. I do have the say, the process of putting together the GrowCamp was much more difficult than the cedar containers. My husband is an engineer and put everything together for me, and I heard more than a couple of grumbles from him-but y’all know what a grumpy pants he can be all day, every day. 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing these awesome gardening ideas! I currently live in an apartment (Powell,Ohio) but am planning to move into a house next year. The small spaces of the apartment have kept me from starting my own garden now and I’ve heard from multiple sources that even with a yard the deer and rabbits in this area are wicked and make it impossible to grow a garden of any kind. I think the grow camp would be perfect for my future back yard, to keep the critters out and to help me grow a beautiful garden. Thank you again for sharing this wonderful website!

You are so welcome Jessica! I am excited for you to get to start gardening! It has always been such a healing activity for me. When my husband put these together for me, and we dug in the dirt, I instantly felt calmer and more stable. It’s amazing.

    Hi Stephanie,

Thank you so much for this post. I live in a NYC apartment so not much gardening. However, my mother in law has a yard and this will be a wonderful Christmas present.
